Recitation Description for SOCY 1001: Analyzing Society
The recitations are intended to focus upon the key concepts that are discussed within the textbook and lectures. The recitations will provide, due to their small size, opportunities to engage in in-depth discussions. There will also be numerous opportunities to ask questions and examine issues that may need further clarification.

Expectations:
Attendance is extremely important. Your Recitation Grade will account for 1/4th of your final grade total for the course.
If you miss more than two recitations, the attendance portion of your recitation grade will be affected. If there are extraneous circumstances that may/have affected your recitation attendance (i.e. documented medical illness, death in the family, car accident, etc.) you will need to contact Shannon Coffey so that the potential affect on your grade may be mitigated.

Weekly Quizzes Given During Recitations:
Each recitation a quiz will be given that will be relevant to what was discussed within the recitation. The quiz will consist of five questions composed a medley of true/false, fill-in-the-blank, and multiple-choice questions.
You will receive full credit for turning in your quiz as long as you have selected a reasonable answer for each of the 5 questions. For example, if you put something un-related to the course material, such as “cat” as an answer for a fill in the blank question, you will not receive full credit.
If you miss more than 2 quizzes, your recitation grade will be impacted.
Assigned Papers (there will be a total of 2 assigned papers):
Twice during the semester, you will be asked to submit a paper on one of two questions that will be assigned. The first paper will be due in recitation on the review day for the first midterm. The second paper will be due in recitation on the review day for the second midterm.
Each paper should be 1 and ˝- 2 pages in length, and is not to exceed 2 pages. The paper is to be typed in 12 point font and is to be double spaced. You will need to proof-read your paper before turning it in (to check for spelling and grammatical errors). College level writing is expected.
Emailed papers and late assignments will not be accepted.
Format for the papers
Please include a heading at the top of the first page that is composed of the following information:
1) Your first and last name
2) The date (for example: Wednesday 2/6)
3) Your recitation day and time (for example: Wednesday 3 PM)
For the title of the paper, which is to be centered on line below the heading please clearly identify the question that you are writing about.
If you qualify for accommodations through Disability Services, please submit a letter from Disability Services to Professor Primm within the first two weeks of class so that your needs may be addressed. Also, please let Shannon Coffey know if you qualify for accommodations.
