Overview

The recitation section provides an opportunity to further discuss material from lecture and to review readings.  This is a time to go more in depth in the things that interest you as students, and for me, as the TA to facilitate discussion on the topics I believe are important.  The primary goal of recitation is to encourage the learning process through feedback and discussion; thus, your preparation and participation in recitation are essential. While discussion is encouraged, mean-spirited comments based on race, ethnicity, gender, class, sexual orientation, religion, ideas or beliefs will not be tolerated.

Assignments and Grades

Regarding assugments and grades, be aware that 10% of your participation grade is held exclusively by your participation and attendance to your recitation section.  Though I will not be calling you to make sure you are coming to recitation, weekly attendance and participation will be noted.

Additionally, reading group assignments are handed out in, observed in, and graded through your recitation section.  If for some reason you are unable to attend recitation, reading group assignments will be posted on WebCT.  You as a student in the class are responsible for getting the assignment for the week you are assigned.

Expectations and Behavior

  1. Come prepared.  Do assigned readings and bring your text book and notes from lecture to recitation each week.
  2. Be responsible. You are responsible for knowing material and announcements presented during lecture and recitation regardless of whether or not you attend.
  3. Be Respectful!  Do not disrupt other students’ ability to participate and learn (e.g., do not arrive late or leave early, do not side-talk, do not begin packing your belongings before class ends, turn cell phones/pagers off).

Honor Code

The University of Colorado has adopted a student Honor Code. Both students and faculty are expected to abide by this code, which can be found at the following website: http://www.colorado.edu/academics/honorcode/.  Cheating and plagiarism are unacceptable!

Disability Statement

If you qualify for accommodations because of a disability, please submit a letter from Disability Services to Professor Steen or myself within the first two weeks of class. It is your responsibility to contact Disability Services and arrange for a letter to be provided to you.  You can contact Disability Services at: 303-492-8671, Willard 322, or www.Colorado.EDU/disabilityservices.
